In a world that often measures value through achievements, social status, or outward appearances, it’s easy to feel inadequate or lost. Yet, your worth is far deeper than external circumstances. Your divine value comes from a higher source—God, who created you with intentionality and love. In this expanded blog, we’ll explore how understanding your divine identity, uncovering your purpose, and living out your worth can lead to a life of confidence and fulfillment.
Your Divine Value Is Unchanging
Imagine holding a $20 bill, if it’s crumpled, dirty, or torn, it doesn’t lose its value. Even if someone crosses out the “20” and replaces it with a different number, it’s still worth $20. Why? Because the creator of the $20 bill assigned its value. In the same way, your value doesn’t decrease because of mistakes, failures, or hardships. You are valuable simply because you are made by God, and only he can determine your value.
The Bible reminds us in Genesis 1:27:
“So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them;
male and female He created them.”
God made you in His image, giving you inherent worth. It’s not something you earn or achieve—it’s something you already possess. This truth can be life-changing when fully embraced. Think about the moments when you’ve doubted yourself or let others’ opinions define you. In those moments, remember that your worth comes from the One who created the universe, and nothing can diminish it.
Consider this: Even when life feels overwhelming, God sees you as precious and deeply loved. Isaiah 43:4 says:
“Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you…”
No matter what the world throws your way, your value in God’s eyes is constant and unshakable.
Understanding Your Identity: Made in God’s Image
Who are you? This question may feel daunting, but the Bible provides a clear answer: God made you in His image and loves you as His child. This identity is the foundation of your worth. Psalm 139:13-14 describes the intentionality of God’s design:
“For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
Every part of you—your strengths, personality, and even your quirks—reflects God’s creativity. You are not an accident or a product of random chance. You are intentionally hand-crafted by the Creator of the universe.
Moreover, when you place your faith in Christ, this identity becomes even more profound. John 1:12 declares:
“Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.”
Being a child of God means you are loved, chosen, and secure. This identity is unshaken by the opinions of others or the ups and downs of life. You are part of God’s family, sealed by the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13). Take a moment to reflect: Do you see yourself as God sees you? How would your life change if you fully embraced your identity in Him?
Embracing Your Purpose: Created for Good Works
Your life has meaning beyond what you may see right now. God created you with a purpose, and He designed you to fulfill it in unique ways. Ephesians 2:10 provides a beautiful reminder:
“For we are God’s masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
Think of yourself as a masterpiece. Each brushstroke—the talents, passions, and experiences you’ve been given—serves a purpose in God’s grand design. Your purpose isn’t just about a career or role; it’s about using your gifts to glorify God and serve others.
How have you been Shaped into your God-Given Purpose?
Finding your purpose isn’t an overnight process; it’s a journey of faith and exploration and looking to how God has SHAPED you. Let’s look at the acronym SHAPED to see where you could find your purpose.
- S – Spiritual Gifts
What unique gifts has God placed in you when he created you? When we look at verses like 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 that talk about the different gifts given by the spirit, we can see we have been given gifts to help us fulfill our purpose. Take a Spiritual Gift Assessment
Another verse is found in Eph 4:11-13 these are the 5 -fold gifts that Christ gave to build the church. Now if Christ gave them to build the church they must be important. Which leads me to believe each of us have one of these core gifts directing our lives, since we all have been called to build the church. Take a 5Fold/APEST assessment here. - H – Heart
What does your heart beat for? What situations or causes stir your emotions? Passion often points to purpose. For example, if you’re moved by stories of children in need, perhaps your purpose involves mentorship or advocacy. - A – Abilities
God in Exodus 4:1-2 asks Moses, “What’s in your hand?” to which Moses replies “my staff.” God goes on to use the everyday tool of Moses’s trade as a shepherd, to do the miraculous over and over again. What natural talents, or learned abilities do you have? What is in your hand? - P – Personality
God gave you your personality while hand-knitting you in the womb, deciding that your personality type would help you thrive in this world. Its good to have an understanding of it and know your weakness and strengths. One of my favorite personality assessment is the Enneagram. (Click here to take the assessment).
They also offer a great video course on each type with a gospel lens on the Enneagram found HERE (use the code ANDREW for 15% off) - E – Experiences
Romans 8:28 assures us that God us working all things out for the good of those who love him and are called according to his purpose. So, what good and “bad” experience have you gone through in your life that God would use or redeem to help bring others to him? - D – Dreams
I believe we all carry God-given dreams inside of us. Things that he wants to partner with us to accomplish. Things that can only happen if God partners with us. What dreams are inside you to reach the world for Christ?
Ephesians 3:20 – “Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.”
Living Confidently in Your Divine Value
Once you understand your divine value and purpose, it’s time to live confidently in that truth. Romans 8:15-16 reassures us:
“The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by Him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.’”
Confidence in your worth means:
- No longer seeking validation from others: Your identity is secure in Christ.
- Living with purpose: You are here for a reason, and your life matters. God has created you purposefully purposed.
- Standing firm in challenges: When doubts arise, remind yourself of God’s promises.
Living out your worth isn’t about perfection—it’s about faithfulness. Trust that God’s plan for you is good, even when it’s not yet clear.
Practical Ways to Embrace Your Worth Daily
Here are daily practices to help you stay grounded in your God-given worth:
- Start Each Day with Scripture: Meditate on verses that affirm your identity, such as Ephesians 2:10 or Jeremiah 29:11.
- Write a Gratitude Journal: List three things you’re grateful for each day to cultivate a heart of thankfulness.
- Serve Others: Find small ways to bless those around you, whether through a kind word, a helping hand, or a simple act of kindness.
- Replace Lies with Truths: Defeat negative self-talk by memorizing and speaking biblical affirmations over your life. Jon Acuff has a great book on this topic. “Soundtracks” is about how to adjust the soundtracks that we have playing in the background of our lives. Final Reflection: You Are Priceless
In conclusion, Life can be overwhelming, and moments of doubt will come. But in those times, anchor yourself in the truth of God’s Word. To emphasize, you are His masterpiece, designed with love and intention, and created for a purpose that only you can fulfill.
So, take time this week to reflect on your divine value and unique purpose, journal your thoughts, pray for clarity, and step out in faith. Remember, your worth is not based on what you do but on who God says you are.
